Villages' Vicar Says Farewell

Retiring: The Rev Roberts is pictured

The vicar to the Astwell group of parishes in South Northants is retiring after 12 years.

Rev John Roberts, 63, held his last service on
Easter Sunday and will be spending some holiday time in York before retiring at the end of this month.

Before becoming a vicar covering the villages of Heirndon, Syresham, Radstone and Whitfield, Rev Roberts was a teacher at Spoime School in Towcester.

He owns a house in Syresham, where he has lived for 27 years with his wife, Jenni, and will be remaining in the village after retirement.

They have four grown-up children between them and one grandchild.

Rev Roberts said: "It has been wonderful and lovely and I have thoroughly enjoyed it. It's had its ups and downs and the parishioners
have been supportive."

He added it was time for a change and his replacement Rev Will Adams had his support and confidence.

Rev Roberts interests include photography,
wildlife and engineering and he has a model train in his garden.

He said he would also be available to help out with services on weekends if needed.
