                                         Helmdon Trail - Falcutt

Falcutt House

Falcutt, like Astwell, was until around a hundred years ago, in Wappenham parish, but both are now part of Helmdon.   Since the late sixteenth century when the hamlets of Astwell and Falcutt were joined by the marriage of Jane Lovett, heiress of Thomas Lovett, to John Shirley, the lands have been closely associated, and are not now distinguishable.  There is another similarity.  Both are deserted villages.

Although perhaps not as old as Astwell (Astwell alone is mentioned in the Domesday Book), we can tell from old documents and maps that there was once a village here.

Today Falcutt consists of Falcutt House and a small number of houses.
