In 1939, Helmdon village joined the rest of the country in being required to complete National Registration Cards following the outbreak of the Second World War. The resulting ‘National Register’ gives a comprehensive listing of the dwellings and people living in the village at that time. Using the 1939 Register as a baseline and with the help of Ordnance Survey mapping and old photos and postcards and the recollections of long-time village residents, this book details how the village has changed and expanded since that time from 174 dwellings in 1939 to over 340 in 2019.
