                               The Old Barn

This photograph  of the old barn in the Square was taken in 1973. Renovated, it is now The Old Barn, 1 Cross Lane, but years ago Eileen and Alan Watson say that it was once the property of the Wrightons from Yew Tree Farm (just behind the war memorial) and used for storage. However, Viv Watson and her sister knew it when it was probably the property of the Gibbons family who lived at Long Acre.  Viv further remembers that although belonging to the Gibbons, it was the Butlers in Yew Tree farm who used it for storage.

David Brookhouse says that it once housed a coach for Jeffs.

It was bought in 1977 for redevelopment and the deeds document that in 1979 the house was “recently erected”.

It is not known how long the 508 Midland bus service continued after 1973. This particular bus was taken out of service in 1979 but it would not have been the only bus used.

The above photo depicting the bus is copyright but copies are available for purchase (contact Ross Vicars on rossvicars@gmail.com for details if interested).
