Womens Club Founders

Helmdon Women's Club celebrated it coral anniversary at the weekend with the help of half-a-dozen foundling members.

Plenty of faces from past and present flooded to the event at the village Reading Room on Saturday, October 8.

The venue had been decked out with greenery and floral displays and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the event.

Current chairman Judy Cairns said: "It was wonderful to see so many old friends there.

"The club has been at the centre of activities for women in Helmdon for 35 years and we were delighted that so many past members made the effort to be there with us to celebrate."

It was originally founded in 1970 by Elizabeth Humphrey as the Helmdon Young Wives and Mothers' Club. The name only changed in 1992 as the original no longer reflected the age group of the members.

They meet at the Reading Room on the third Wednesday of each month and the programme of events includes speakers, demonstrations and social evenings.
