Police believe an elderly resident has thwarted an attempted distraction burglary in Helmdon.

Three men called at a house in the village at 3pm on Tuesday, July 11 and repeatedly banged on the door claiming to be offering information about a computer company.

Despite their persistence, the elderly householder refused to open the door to them and they eventually left.

Police are warning about the activities of this group of men and reminding people to keep doors closed against unknown and unexpected callers.

A community safety spokesman said: "This person did exactly the right thing. Our advice is simply don't open the door unless you are expecting someone to call."

Anyone who saw these men in Helmdon on Tuesday can call police on (08453 700700).
