Dave's
175 Mile Run
A single marathon is more than enough for most people but
Dave Bailey from Helmdon plans to run six in as many days.
The 30-year-old who lives in Station Road will take part in
the Marathon in Nottingham starting on Sunday September 7th.
His efforts will raise cash for Cancer Research UK and
he has specifically requested it is spent on breast cancer
research.
"We all know at least one person who has suffered from
cancer", he said. "Unfortunately I know a few
more."
Dave's partner's mum had breast cancer as did his great aunt. For
this reason he pledged to fight the disease through fundraising.
He surfed the net looking for an extreme event to take part
in as he wanted to challenge himself.
He added: "If all goes to plan the beginning of September
will see me on the start line at Malvern, with a mere 175
of cross country running ahead, carrying all my food and my
sleeping bag.
"Albeit an ordinary 30-something I have found the journey
so far, in preparing for this event, exhilarating and very
fulfilling.
"Like all journeys of this nature there are high points,
low points and consequences.
"The real skill in managing such a task is to maintain
balance to your life, something that I am aware I need to
work harder on.
"My target is to reach £3,000, a challenge
that I find harder than running 175 miles."
Dave works for Heygates in Northampton and the company has
agreed to sponsor his efforts and provide bread for all the
runners.
Fine Lady Bakeries in Banbury and Jordans Cereals have also
added their support for the event.
