QUALITY OF LIFE SURVEY
WE’RE THE FOURTH BEST RURAL SPOT IN UK
If you are reading this you are doing so from the fourth most desirable place to live in rural Britain.
South Northants was only beaten into a top three spot by Rutland (first), Chiltern (second) and Uttlesford (third).
Good health, broadband access, rate of employment, crime rates and weather were among factors taken into account for the Halifax Rural Areas Quality of Life Survey.
The south east dominated the top 50 list, occupying 14 spots but this is the first time South Northants has come in the first four. It was ninth in 2014 and 2013.
Calvin Bell, director of development for South Northants Council, said: “This is terrific news for the district and reflects the focus South Northamptonshire Council has given to our Job Clubs, Job Match Services and Enterprise Club which all help keep unemployment low and employment high.
“We are also well serviced with good transport connections with a buoyant economy, and we have worked hard to provide a good range of services to business which not only provides employment, but encourages new business into the district.”
More than 96 per cent of residents in Rutland report good or fairly good health, while weekly earnings average a high £626.
The county also enjoys one of the lowest crime rates in the country, less rainfall per year than the national average and an adult population which is among the most happy, satisfied and content in Britain.
South Oxfordshire was placed 10th and Aylesbury Vale was 17th.
