      FOOTBALLER'S FEAST OF FUN

Footballer John Hanson kicked off the Helmdon Carnival by taking a tour around the attractions after opening the annual feast of food and fun.

He took time to look at the array of vintage motorbikes and cars and sit astride a 1950 BSA Golden Flash at the carnival.

Elsewhere around the show site visitors wound their way through the stalls, games and refreshments and took rides on the Royal Mail’s Mercury Mailcoach pulled by th Norwich Union Greys.

Floats arrived at the Helmdon Sports Club ground in Wappenham Road in a procession led by the Carlsberg Pipe Band and Carnival Queeen Emma Butler, 11.  She was accompanied by attendants Victoria Bradford, Jessica Bullen and Amy Croasdale (sic)

Local artists exchibited a display of their finest work during the festivities.  But the artistry began at home as householders opted out of their weekend duties to get ready for the best decorated house contest.

And villagers also pulled out all the stops for the flower and vegetable show, which included categories from the world of cookery and rural arts.

In the junior section there were prizes for the best monster made from vegetables, best garden on a tray, and best cake baked to depict a European flag.
