DONATION  LEADS TO NEW ‘CLASSROOM SHED’

PrimarySchool (sic)excited about outdoor learning facility

By Stuart Prestidge

Pupils at a Helmdon Primary school (sic) will be getting more from their ‘outdoor classroom’   thanks to a donation by Taylor Wimpey.

The house building company gave £370 to Helmdon Acorns to buy a new shed for the pre-school’s garden.

Liz Hart, who runs the pre-school, said: “I know a shed sounds a bit boring, but it’s very important for the pre-school.”

“We use our garden like an outdoor classroom.  The children learn about plants and fruit and vegetables of course, but also maths, by measuring sunflowers for example, and writing, because all the plant have labels.”

During the Easter break staff and parent volunteers gave the garden area a makeover but the shed was beyond repair.

Ms Hart added: “The shed is needed for all our gardening equipment, children’s bikes and garden toys, and the old one was showing serious signs of decay.

“The children, the staff and the parents would all like to thank Taylor Wimpey for this generous donation.”

Gareth Jacob, regional marketing director for Taylor Wimpey said: “We’re delighted to support Helmdon Acorns Pre-School. We are committed to making a positive contribution to the communities in which we build.

“We hope the children really enjoy their improved garden.”
