Competition Winner Helps Pre-School

A Helmdon mother has won a competition to work for her favourite charity.

Liz Hart was one of 500 nationwide winners of Vodaphone Foundation’s first World of Difference UK programme and as a result the phone company has donated £2,500 to cover her wages at Helmdon Acorns Pre-School for two months until March.

Mrs Hart, 41, is working as the pre-school’s project manager and is spending her time trying to accelerate a long-term plan to move the pre-school to a new building.

Speaking ahead of the placement she said: “I was over the moon when I heard I had been selected and can’t wait to drive the project for the new building forward.

“I will be busy securing planning permission for the new building and raising the additional funding needed to make the dream reality.”

More than 1,100 people entered Vodaphone’s World of Difference competition.  Applicants had to submit a project and Mrs Hart’s proposal for the Helmdon Acorns Pre-School was deemed one of the best.

The pre-school, which is attended by Mrs Hart’s two-year-old daughter, is currently based in the village’s Reading room.

The project will cost £170,000 and Mrs Hart has already submitted an application to Northamptonshire County Council for a £150,000 grant.
