Carnival plans take shape

Details of the entertainment for this year's Helmdon Carnival have been announced.

The event will fall over the three days of the August bank holiday weekend and follows the great success of last year's three day event.

All the activities will take place on the sports field in Wappenham Road, Helmdon and again have been organised by the carnival committee.

There will be a musical theme to the carnival weekend, with the band Accrington Stanley playing on the Saturday night supported by other unconfirmed bands as well as refreshments including a bar.

On the Sunday afternoon it will be time to relax as there will be a jazz session taking place in a marquee on the sports field courtesy of the Porterhouse Six.

The weekend of events will come to a spectacular climax on Monday, August 26th, when a fair, Morris dancers and a horticultural and produce show will take place.

There will also be an air display by Denny Dobson's team as well as the float parade through the village to the accompaniment of various bands.

Competitors for the annual tug of war competition are being asked to sign themselves up ready for the big event which will take place on Bank Holiday Monday.

Anyone wishing to enter a team in the tug of war competition can contact Ross Vicars on (01295) 760477.

All the funds which will be raised by the carnival will be donated to local charities.
