FETE BOOSTS READING ROOM FUNDS
Plans to extend the Reading Room in Helmdon have been given a £220 boost, thanks to the village’s annual fete on Saturday.
Villagers are aiming to make the main hall of the reading room bigger to accommodate more people and they also want to lower the ceiling. They installed a new kitchen several years ago – also with proceeds from the annual fete.
This year’s event, held in Shortlands field, had a wide range of attractions. There were craft and tombola stalls and stalls selling jumble and produce. Plenty of games for both children and adults made it a lively afternoon, as did the music by Towcester Studio band.
TRAILER RIDES
Rides on a trailer pulled by a vintage tractor, rebuilt by a local builder, Tony Wilson, proved popular.
In the evening a whist drive organized by the youth club was well attended.
