www.helmdon.com is now an award winning web site!

In March Helmdon Branch in WEA Eastern District was the Web Site of the Month at UK Villages on line, a prestigious award which has become the benchmark for community websites in the UK. Being monthly winner means that the Branch will be entered in to the 2002/003 Web Site of the Year Award

The award is recognition of all the hard work of Danny Moody and all of his team in producing one of the best Village web sites in the country.

In April the Branch won the Amdow Web Design 5 Signpost Award. They were told: We were pleased to award the Helmdon web site 5 Signposts. Our panel's comments were "A well laid out site which is about 18 months old. Very easily navigated and containing diverse information and resources. Gives the impression of being well supported by the local community. Provides information for both the local population and to visitors. Particularly liked was the photographs of the three contacts. A good example to follow". This was a particularly pleasing award because 5 Signposts are only awarded to sites that show the way for other communities - and indeed the e-mails from all over the country from village webmasters who are just getting going are coming fast.

The Branch is delighted with the awards and see them as motivation to keep improving the website and make it a real village resource.

History Resources

The history section of helmdon.com continues to be a key feature with new information being added all the time. Articles on the Railways of Helmdon and Helmdon Stone have been added and the Oral Reminiscences have been updated. There is now a lot of collaborative research going on and the Heldmon WEA Local Studies Group receives e-mails from all over the world from people who have seen the web site and found it to be useful. Unfortunately there are always more questions than answers, but it is fun to make a discovery, or find a new family link

What we need now to keep the site lively and vibrant is visitors and feedback. Please visit the site and let us know what you think.
