Manor Farm is surrounded by an old moat which was probably deepened from the
original embankments of the Saxon settlement. The Manor House (signs of a
Neolithic settlement have been found around the area) had moved as the original
stone building stood some 75 yards north east of the present house. To the
south west of the site was a small spring-fed lake, which is now filled but
was probably the fishpond for the manor. There are the remains of an old track
cutting across what is now the farmyard and continuing up toward the Welsh
Lane - much of it would have been destroyed when the railway cutting was built.
