The war memorial is thought to have been erected in January 1921. The Helmdon stone quarries were worked out by that time and the material, Hornton stone, came from the Edge Hill quarries near Banbury. John Campin (the same family as William Campiun) was the stone mason, and it is said that two years after it was erected stones came tumbling down after a storm so its height was reduced.
The Helmdon branch WEA’s Project Helmdon’s War Memorial – The Men Behind The Names was published on the website in November 2014 at the time of the national commemoration celebrations of the First World War
